Samurai

Digital Painting: Samurai

About the Painting

Garr has long been fascinated by Japan, its art, and its culture. When he received a commission* for a Japanese-themed painting to go into a room with other Japanes art and curios, he jumped at the chance.

The Samurai has always captured his imagination since reading “The 47 Ronin”. They are, for him, an iconic symbol of old Japan. He added another iconic symbol: sakura (cherry blossoms), and placed his variation of the Nijo Castle in Kyoto as an imposing backdrop. Garr has visited this amazing site, and has always marvelled at Japanese castles – and how they differ so significantly from their European counterparts.

This painting is quite a departure from Garr's normal style, but he is proud of how it turned out.

*Because of his good relationship with the commissionee, and as part of the fee, it was agreed that Garr could sell reproductions of this work.
